Mischa Barton’s Struggle With Depression

Mischa Barton, most known for her role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C., has been struggling with depression.She checked into a psychiatric hospital last year, but now she says that she feels that she is in a better place.

After admitting that she does suffer with depression, Mischa wants to put last year behind her.’I suffer from depression and that’s the truth. I’ve never told anybody that,’ the actress has confessed.Reflecting on her struggles in 2009, the former O.C. star said: ‘That was a tumultuous year. It was one thing after another and it led to a pretty reasonable breakdown.’

She says that now she feels in control of her emotions. She uses music and literature as outlets and insists that she is usually a very fun person with a great sense of humor!

“I balance [depression] with positive things in my life and that’s why I have my outlets…As much as I get down, I’m an upbeat person. People always think of me as kind of a light in a room – I love to make people laugh.”Mischa Barton has opened up about her battle with the blues.

Barton admitted that she can be a little outlandish at times, but rejected any suggestion she was “mentally unstable’.“I am pretty crazy and weird sometimes, but not mentally unstable,’ she said.

Looking on the bright side and exploring her creative passions help the 24-year-old cope with her condition, she said. “I balance [depression] with positive things in my life and that’s why I have my outlets of music and literature … As much as I get down, I’m an upbeat person.
