Monica “Danger” Leon from VH1’s reality show For the Love of Ray J recently went public about her breakdown, her postpartum depression, her 5150 psychiatric hold in a Northern California hospital (after an incident involving her newborn daughter) and her subsequent escape from the institution.
“People don’t know how serious of an illness postpartum depression is. I’ve had a very rough life. People don’t understand that when you come from a tough past, and you have a child and you have postpartum depression, a lot hits you at once. You always want a better life for your child than what you had.”
Her baby girls name is Mayara Leon.
For those of you who don’t know her, Monica Leon was in the first cycle of the reality show For the Love of Ray J. which is basically about a gaggle of ghetto-fabulous hood rats looking for their fifteen minutes of fame. Some of the girls were shy and cordial, others were loud and boisterous. Or crazy. Monica was kicked off the show for acting crazy but it turns out the crazy act was no act. She was placed on a 72 hour psychiatric hold shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday. This upset her so she shaved her head and started leaving zany tweets on her Twitter page while making cracked phone calls to friends after her baby’s Dad took the baby to his family’s Thanksgiving dinner without her.
So she went all Britney and shaved her head, “People think there was a big thing where I was violent and angry, but that didn’t happen. I was very depressed. I was crying and very sad. I have no support. I have no family support. I have no financial support. I’ve never felt loved.”
What about the escape? “It started off extremely bad. I don’t like to be imprisoned. I was born free, I’m going to die free… I knew the only way I was going to get out was if I controlled my anger. I escaped twice and was on the run. They had to find me. When I finally came back, I just knew that if I ever wanted to see my daughter again, I had to control my anger.”
Regarding recovery? “I just have to talk to God. I wrote letters to my daughter, and I couldn’t talk to any of my family. My child’s father called with his father, and told me that he loved me and wanted me to get better. That helped me a lot. Positive people in my life that aren’t related to me were showing me that I was loved.”
This can only be regarded as good news. After all, first there was the tattoo on her face, then the claim (she since changed the story) that she got pregnant with Ray’s J after (her words) letting Ray dip his bat while filming the series last November. At that time she told The National Enquirer she became pregnant after a series of unprotected intimate encounters with Ray. “I was locked in a mansion with him and 13 girls from October until the end of December. Toward the end of the first week of filming, we made love for the first time – and we slept together every night after that.” Monica maintains that she was on the Pill, but it failed during that period.
But, in the inimitable words of Tiffany, one of Monica’s fans, “Here she go lyin again, dat ain’t Ray J baby, she jus lyin like she did on da show!”
Monica has since revealed that the child’s father is Gabriel Cannon a member of the R&B band Rydaznrtist.
Regarding the future? “I’ll always be Danger. She’s part of me. She’s my creation. Since I was 19, I’ve been that person. But I have control. I can control who I am. I’ve playing Danger for a long time. And I’m tired of playing Danger.”
We’ll see. By the time Ray gets through playing with these girls minds they will all need a bottle of St. John’s Wort: or SAM-e, or L-Tryptophan, or any of the other Natural depression support options available over the counter.
Good luck Monica and baby Mayarna!
