Prince Charles advocates St John’s wort for depression

Having already addressed the 2006 World Health Assembly in Geneva to argue for homeopathy and other natural treatments, Prince Charles is back at it, urging a return to remedies “rooted in ancient traditions that intuitively understood the need to maintain balance and harmony with our minds, bodies and the natural world. It seems to be that in our ceaseless rush to modernize, many tried and tested methods which have shown themselves be effective have been cast aside as old-fashioned or irrelevant to today’s needs.”

For instance, the Prince advocates a re-review of the proven evidence behind St John’s wort for depression. “The human body has too often been mechanistically reduced to individual parts and treated with limited reference to the whole person, we need to harness the best of modern science and technology, but not at the expense of losing the best of what complementary approaches have to offer. That is integrated health – it really is that simple.”
